About Us
Alpha Lambda Sigma began as AXE Little Sisters in 1983. Alpha Chi Epsilon Fraternity (AXE) was founded December 17, 1982. Other Little Sister Organizations came and went through the years, but we managed to survive. In 1998, Pace University banned all Little Sister Organizations from campus. We continued as an underground organization.
In the past, pledge classes were kept small and secretive due to the campus policy on Little Sister Organizations. Yet, in 1992, we had a record prospective pledge class of 21. This was the second largest pledge class of all sororities that year.
Because of the large number of AXE Little Sister pledges that year, there was a formal complaint made by some of the Greek organizations to the Student Life Association. Student Life was forced to put pressure on the AXE brothers to keep the activities of the Little Sisters to a minimum. Even with our events at a minimum, neither the Greeks, nor Student Life were content. Eventually, Student Life told the brothers of AXE to dissolve the Little Sisters, or be prepared to suffer the consequences, such as removal of their charter.
The Little Sisters, not wanting to cause trouble for AXE, voluntarily resigned and contemplated what to do with our close knit group of ladies. We, the most current members of the AXE Little Sisters, decided that it would be a shame to put an end to such a long standing tradition. Therefore, we went ahead and did something that had been debated upon for many years; we decided to form a sorority. On September 16, 1993, we all got together and drew up a constitution. On September 22, the Executive Board of AXE Little Sisters met with the brothers of AXE and it became official that we were no longer affiliated with them.
In the months to come, we met with appropriate groups and organizations. On December 1, 1993, we became the founding Sisters of ALPHA LAMBDA SIGMA SORORITY.
Our name was derived by using the first letters of the words AXE Little Sisters. ALPHA LAMBDA SIGMA is a local sorority of the AXE Fraternity. All alumni Little Sisters are considered honorary members of ALPHA LAMBDA SIGMA.
The values of ALPHA LAMBDA SIGMA SORORITY are loyalty, trust and honor, symbolized by the colors, purple, white and teal, respectively.
